Glossary - Biomimicry, the rise of the biomimetic building
Alkaliphilic: Organisms (mostly microorganisms) that are able to survive in alkalic
environments, with a pH of 8.5-10. They grow optimally in a pH of around 10.
Hydrophilic: Having a strong affinity for water.
Hydrophobic: Repelling, tending not to combine with, or incapable of dissolving in water.
