As the tutorial is part of the "advanced components stage" of SIKS' educational program, all SIKS- Ph.D- students are strongly encouraged to participate.

Abstract

Web content is a large and growing component of internet traffic. The use of content caches in the network can provide significant performance and cost advantages. The performance of caches for web content is critical to the design and management of the network. Topics to be covered: web caching overview, caching architectures, traffic models, performance characterization, commercial systems, content transformation, research directions.

About the speaker

Dr. John Buford is Director, Internet Technologies at Verizon Laboratories, USA. Verizon Communications is the largest telecomunications carrier in the US. Previously Dr. Buford was Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Director of the Distributed Multimedia Systems Lab there. He holds the PhD from T.U. Graz, Austria, and BS and MS from MIT.
